MS Industry Subplan
Return to Career Services and Professional Development Hub
The MS Industry Subplan allows Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering (MAE) master’s students to gain real-world experience by completing an industry internship (MAE 650) in place of the traditional independent academic project (MAE 586). This option is available to both current and incoming MS students in academic good standing.
Students must identify their own internship opportunity and secure an offer letter before enrollment. The internship must include all of the following:
- Take place during an academic semester (Fall or Spring, with the option to extend into Summer)
- Be 4–7 months in duration
- Involve clear technical content relevant to mechanical or aerospace engineering
Students enrolling in MAE 650 must change their degree plan to the MS Industry Subplan. To do so, submit a request through the MAE Graduate Online Intake Form. No subplan changes can be made after the sixth week of the final semester.
Course Deliverables (MAE 650):
- One-page project proposal
- Midterm report
- Final report
- Supervisor evaluation form
- For International Students – CPT documentation and any additional reporting required by the Office of International Services (OIS)
Students will enroll in MAE 650 during the semester of their internship and must have completed at least 18 credit hours prior to enrollment. All milestones are submitted via Moodle and must be approved by both the internship supervisor and course coordinator.
