Arts, Performances & Culture

University Theatre
Live theatre productions by NC State students and faculty. Tickets are often free or very low cost. 

The Crafts Center
Pottery, painting, fiber arts, and woodworking classes. Many students find this deeply grounding. 

Gregg Museum of Art & Design
Free admission. A quiet and relaxing place to walk through exhibitions, recharge, or get inspired. 

NC State LIVE at Memorial Auditorium
Concerts, comedy, speakers, and performances on campus. Many events offer student discounts. 

Outdoor Activities Near NC State

JC Raulston Arboretum
A beautiful botanical garden right next to Centennial Campus. Free to visit and great for walking or sitting quietly. 

Lake Raleigh
75-acre lake on Centennial Campus with walking trails, wooded surroundings, peaceful views, and access for kayaking, fishing, and other outdoor activities- an easy, quiet break near campus. 

Pullen Park
Designated as North Carolina’s first public park, Pullen Park is one of Raleigh’s oldest parks and the fifth-oldest operating amusement park in the United States. Located beside NC State (main campus), it offers walking paths, a lake, open green space, and classic features like a carousel and pedal boats. 

Lake Johnson
Scenic 150-acre lake near NC State with wooded trails, peaceful water views, and a mix of paved and natural paths. Popular for walking, running, kayaking, fishing, and other outdoor activities.

Wellness Wednesdays (NC State) 
Free wellness activities, therapy dogs, mindfulness sessions, and stress relief events.

Dorothea Dix Park
Expansive 300+ acre park near downtown Raleigh with rolling hills, open fields, and peaceful skyline views. Offers walking paths, wide green spaces, public art, a dog park, and community events- an ideal place for both relaxation and outdoor activity. 

NC Museum of Art
Free galleries and a 160+ acre outdoor park with walking trails, public art, and peaceful natural surroundings, offering an easy place to unwind, explore, and enjoy both art and nature. 

The Raleigh Market
An open air weekend market at the NC State Fairgrounds with local vendors, food, crafts, antiques, and plants. 

James B. Hunt Jr. Horse Complex
Located at the NC State Fairgrounds, this venue hosts horse shows, exhibitions, and special events throughout the year. 

Lake Wheeler
Large park just outside Raleigh with peaceful water views, wooded surroundings, and expansive open space. Offers boating, kayaking, fishing, and picnic areas. 

NC State Counseling Center

The Counseling Center provides confidential support for students experiencing stress, anxiety, burnout, or other concerns. A range of counseling services are available to support your mental health.
