Mechanical Events and Competitions
Formula SAE
The NC State Pack Motorsports Formula SAE team builds a new Formula race car each year, which they take to compete against other teams from around the world at FSAE competitions. One component of the car each year counts at the Senior Design Project for the Formula team seniors. In 2023, their senior design project was  designed an active cooling system for the accumulator which is responsible for removing heat from the battery pack via a working fluid.
In 2023, the Formula Team competed in the Formula SAE Michigan competition, in which they placed 29th overall out of about 90 teams.
Baja SAE
The NC State Pack Motorsports Baja SAE team builds a new Baja car each year, which they take to race wheel-to-wheel with other teams from all over the world. One component of the team’s work each year counts at the Senior Design Project for the Baja team seniors. In 2023, the Baja team had two different senior design projects, one of which was a 4-wheel drive system mandated by SAE for their competitions where this 4-wheel drive system will help in transfer of torque to all 4 wheels for better acceleration and off-road performance. The other project was consisted of designing uprights for their 2023 SAE competition where design of these uprights is critical as it is a load-bearing member acting as a physical mounting for suspension arms and wheel assembly.
In 2023, the Baja Team has competed in Baja SAE Oshkosh Competition, placing 12th Overall out of 82 total teams. They will compete in a second 2023 competition in early June.
