Open Shop Schedule — Fall 2026

Mon-Fri: 9am – 4pm*

*Note: Daily schedule changes will be posted outside the shop.

During open shop time, all MAE 416 students are welcome to use their workbenches and the machines for which they are certified. However, priority will be given to MAE 416 sections during their class times. To weld during open shop time, an appointment must be scheduled below due to space constraints.

Machine Training

Each Fall, students will need to train on one specific set of machines in the Senior Design Lab based on the needs of their teams and what their advisor recommends. Before signing up, you must complete the required safety training on Reporter. The choices of machines are Lathe, Mill, Welding and Shop Fab. There may be a need for secondary training sessions prior to starting the Senior Project.

Badge Tests

Identification/certification badges are required to be worn when working in the shop. Badges must be worn in the shop at all times. In order to obtain your badge, you must demonstrate that you remember all the safety rules associated with the equipment you are certified to use. Click here to access the calendar to sign up.
