The REACHR Project
The Reconnaissance and Emergency Aircraft for Critical Hurricane Relief (REACHR) project at North Carolina State University is developing an advanced Unmanned Aerial System (UAS) to transform disaster response. At the core of this system is HERO 2, a VTOL-capable flying boat UAV engineered for post-hurricane reconnaissance, real-time situational assessment, and emergency support. HERO 2 builds on the success of its predecessor, HERO 1, integrating high-resolution imaging, infrared sensors, real-time data transmission, and a modular payload system to enhance situational awareness and improve first responder efficiency. With a hybrid-electric powertrain, HERO 2 maximizes endurance while maintaining operational flexibility across air, land, and water. It is also capable of delivering emergency supplies to stranded individuals and on-site first responders, ensuring critical aid reaches those in need when traditional methods fail. Field testing on Ocracoke Island, NC, in collaboration with FEMA and emergency management agencies, will validate its performance in real-world disaster scenarios.

By reducing response times, expanding accessibility, and enhancing disaster relief coordination, REACHR is setting a new standard in emergency response—saving more lives, in less time, and at lower costs.
The REACHR team is dedicated to developing a cutting-edge Unmanned Aerial System (UAS) designed to revolutionize disaster relief efforts. Our innovative technology aims to provide rapid response, deliver critical supplies, and enhance search-and-rescue operations in the most challenging conditions. As we continue our research and development, we need your support to bring this life-saving solution to reality. Your donation will directly fund essential testing, prototype enhancements, and deployment strategies to ensure our UAS can make a real impact when disasters strike.
Join us in shaping the future of disaster relief—every contribution brings us one step closer to saving lives. Donate today and be part of the mission!
