Dr. Jaemin Lee is an Assistant Professor who started in the fall of 2024. He received his Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Texas at Austin, TX. Before joining the faculty at North Carolina State University, he was a postdoctoral scholar in Mechanical and Civil Engineering at the California Institute of Technology (Caltech) in Pasadena, CA. He also worked as a research scientist at the Korea Institute of Science and Technology (KIST) in Seoul.
His research interests include robotics, optimal planning, whole-body and safety-critical control, autonomy, learning-based control, and hybrid dynamical systems, with a focus on the loco-manipulation of legged robots such as animaliods and humanoids. His lab focuses on developing innovative hardware of robotic systems, advancing planning and control algorithms using optimization and learning techniques, perception-based reasoning, non-traditional transformable locomotion, and AI with large behavioral models. The ultimate goal is to deploy autonomous robots effectively in unstructured and dynamic environments for real-world applications, leveraging AI to enhance both behavioral and intellectual capabilities.
