Saul elected ASB President

An Associate Department head at NC State University’s Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering (MAE), Katherine Saul, was recently elected as the upcoming president of the American Society of Biomechanics (ASB).

As ASB President-Elect, Saul will serve as President from August 2025 to August 2026.

Saul has held the prestigious title of ASB fellow since July 2022, and earlier this year was also selected as the 2024 recipient of the ASB Founder’s Award, first established in 2017 and open to investigators of all disciplines within ASB , and is given to recognize “scientific accomplishment in biomechanics and excellence in mentoring,” the ASB website states. She has served on the ASB Executive Board since 2018 as Meeting Chair, Diversity Task Force Chair and Secretary.

The goal of Saul’s research in the Movement Biomechanics Laboratory is to improve treatment for upper limb neuromusculoskeletal conditions by providing biomechanical insight to clinicians regarding the effects of neuromuscular and orthopaedic injury and clinical interventions. She is a leader in developing computational models of the upper limb for rehabilitation engineering applications.

In addition to her multiple recognitions from ASB, Saul has also been recognized as a Fellow of the American Institute for Medical and Biological Engineering, an Engineering Unleashed Fellow of the Kern Family Foundation, and an OpenSim Fellow of the National Center for Simulation in Rehabilitation Research.

In addition to Saul’s election as president, the ASB Election Board also announced Program Chair Elect Kim Bigelow, Secretary Lisa MacFadden Treasurer Elect Young-Hui Chang, Nominating Committee Members Jason Franz and Janet Dufek, and Student Rep Paula Kramer
