Facilities
HUNT LIBRARY
Opened in 2013 the Hunt Library is a research and design library, with cutting edge group study and presentation spaces. Key facilities at the Hunt Library available to summer interns throughout their 9 week REU program include:
- Visualization, Immersive Display, Simulation, and Virtual Environments
- Teaching, Demonstration, Presentation
- Prototyping, Engineering, Making, Modeling
- Cinema, Media, Animation, Graphics, Audio
- Conferencing, Capture, Streaming, Broadcast
BLAST LAB
contains equipment for testing of composite materials under different strain rates, ranging from low velocity impact to ballistic impacts. Optical full-field measurement capabilities to measure the deformoration of these specimens during dynamic events is also available.
COMPOSITES NDE LAB
contains equipment for the design, fabrication and interrogation of optical fiber sensors for monitoring of composite structures; full-field NDE of composite laminates; and low-velocity impact testing of composites
COMPOSITES CORE FACILITY
houses preform manufacturing, resin treatment, and testing and evaluation equipment
- Vacuum Assisted Resin Transfer Molding (VARTM)
- Hot-press
- Various Load Frames
- High Energy Falling Weight Impact Tester
TEXTILE PROTECTION AND COMFORT CENTER (TPACC)
TPACC is a world leader in laboratory based instrumented systems and has facilities devoted to the analysis of heat and flame protection, chemical resistance, and comfort performance. Instrumented systems are available to test for the effects of fire or chemical damage along with instrumentation to determine comfort for performance textiles.
ANALYTICAL INSTRUMENTATION FACILITY (AIF)
The AIF contains equipment for imaging of composite specimens, including:
- Scanning electron microscopy (SEM)
- Field emission SEM
- Scanning probe microscopy
- Focused ion beam system
- Facilities for sample preparation
- Optical microscopy and profilometry
