Title:
SPORT SCIENCE AS A COMPETITIVE ADVANTAGE FOR HER AT NIKE
Abstract:
Nike believes that if you have a body, you are an athlete*. The Nike Sport Research Laboratory (NSRL) is a multidisciplinary group with the unified goal of making athletes better. We approach this mission through science. For more than 40 years the NSRL has been analyzing athletes’ data to pinpoint problems and invent never-before-seen solutions. Today, this is particularly true for the female athlete. In the NSRL, we have been accelerating our work in women’s research to better understand her needs and remove the barriers that she faces to be active. Women are truly on the leading edge of sport. This talk will describe how the NSRL contributes to the delivery of women’s specific footwear and apparel product innovations and expanded automation capabilities to create the best possible products for her.
Bio:
Dr. Bridget Munro leads Women’s Research in the Nike Sport Research Laboratory. Her team focuses on how we can use science to harness human potential and create the next generation of game-changing apparel and footwear products and services particularly focused on the female athlete. Bridget gained her PhD in applied biomechanics from the University of Wollongong in Australia and pursued an academic career path before moving to Nike. Her research background has spanned working with to improve the performance of elite athletes through injury prevention, clinical populations to enable them to move, and working with smart materials for medical devices. At Nike, Bridget is catalyzing learning more about female athletes, particularly through the lens of inclusivity, to help them stay safe and motivated in their activity journey.
