Low-speed Wind Tunnel
The NCSU low-speed wind tunnel is a closed-circuit tunnel with a 3:1 contraction ratio. The test section is 3.8′ × 3.7′ × 0.8′ (length × width × height) with wind speeds variable up to 90 mph via a 250 horsepower electric motor that drives a 3-blade, varying pitch propeller. In order to ensure good flow quality, the settling chamber is equipped with a honeycomb screen and two anti-turbulence screens. The turbulence intensity, based on turbulence sphere and hot-wire anemometry tests, has been measured to be 0.3%.
